Physicians' Board - Dr. Gil Levy

Dr. Levy is a recognized leader in the field of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, specializing in the treatment of pelvic prolapse, urinary incontinence, and advanced pelvic surgery. He has authored scientific articles, research abstracts and clinical presentations. Dr. Levy also leads R&D projects developing innovative surgical instruments and he has authored multiple published patents worldwide. He was previously the Director of the Urogynecology program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. He is currently Director of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Staten Island University Hospital and Maimonides Medical Center Brooklyn NY.

Dr. Levy received his Medical degree in 1987 from Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Israel. After completing his academic work, Dr Levy entered the Ob/Gyn residency program at Long Island College Hospital, graduating with a special interest in pelvic surgery. He then commenced his postgraduate training in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY. After completing his training, he was invited to remain in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as Assistant Professor and Director of the Urogynecology program where he established a multidisciplinary approach to Female Pelvic Dysfunction with involvement of Urologists, Colo-Rectal Surgeons and geriatricians.

In July 2000 he became the Director of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the Staten Island University Hospital and in June 2002 he accepted an additional Division directorship at the Maimonides Medical Center. Dr. Levy is currently establishing the Institute for Female Pelvic Floor Dysfunction - a Multidisciplinary program with state of the art diagnostic facility including an Ano/rectal physiology lab, and multiple treatment modalities for pelvic organ prolapse and Urinary/Fecal Incontinence.

Dr. Levy's current interests include minimally invasive pelvic surgery and advanced technologies for the treatment of prolapse, vaginal anatomical injuries and incontinence. His innovative surgical techniques include minimally invasive surgical instruments, obstetric risk factors for pelvic floor dysfunction, and obstetrical fistula repairs. Dr. Levy initiated a program for treatment of obstetrical fistulas in Niamey, Niger with the assistance of the International Organization for Women and Development. He is the Medical Director of this program and leads bi-monthly surgical missions to the African nation of Niger, where he performs corrective surgeries in the National Hospital of Niamey.

He is currently a board member of Raytel Medical; a Principal Investigator for the Staten Island Urology Research Group and a scientific advisor of several startup medical technology companies.
